TIMBER FLOOR SANDING & REFINISHING
Professional floor sanding can restore timber floors that have become scratched, worn, discoloured or damaged over time.
The existing coating is carefully removed and the timber progressively sanded to produce a clean, even surface ready for refinishing.
We work with a wide range of timber flooring including hardwood, solid timber, engineered timber and parquetry.
Every floor is assessed individually so the sanding process and finishing system can be selected to suit the timber, condition of the floor and the result you want to achieve.
Once sanding and preparation are complete, the floor can be finished using a range of professional coating systems, from natural low-sheen and matt finishes through to satin and gloss, as well as custom staining and colour options.

OUR FLOOR SANDING PROCESS
1. Floor Assessment & Preparation
The existing floor is assessed for wear, damage, previous coatings, repairs and any areas requiring attention before sanding begins.
2. Professional Sanding
Professional floor sanding equipment and dust extraction are used through a controlled sequence of sanding stages to remove the existing finish and prepare the timber.
3. Repairs & Fine Preparation
Where required, damaged boards, gaps and other defects can be addressed before the floor receives its final preparation.
4. Staining & Colouring – Optional
Timber can be left in its natural colour or customised with stains, liming and other colour systems depending on the timber and desired appearance.
5. Professional Floor Finish
The prepared floor is protected with a suitable professional coating system selected for appearance, durability and how the area will be used.

WHAT TYPES OF TIMBER FLOORS CAN BE SANDED?
Many existing timber floors can be professionally sanded and refinished rather than replaced.
The suitability of the floor depends on its construction, condition, previous sanding and, in the case of engineered flooring, the thickness of the timber wear layer.
Gold Coast Floor Sanding regularly works with solid hardwood flooring, engineered timber, parquetry and older timber floors requiring restoration.
Solid Timber Floors
Solid timber flooring can often be sanded and refinished multiple times throughout its life, allowing scratches, worn coatings and discolouration to be removed and the appearance completely refreshed.
Engineered Timber Floors
Many engineered floors can be refinished provided there is sufficient timber wear layer remaining. We assess the floor before sanding to determine whether refinishing is appropriate.
Parquetry Floors
Parquetry requires careful sanding because of its multi-directional grain and pattern. Individual blocks can also be repaired or replaced where required.
Older & Existing Timber Floors
Older floors can often be restored even where there is significant wear, previous coatings, staining or repairs. Each floor is assessed to determine the most appropriate restoration process.

COMMON REASONS TO HAVE TIMBER FLOORS SANDED
Floor sanding and refinishing can be suitable for floors with scratched or worn coatings, dull and discoloured finishes, staining, previous coating damage, renovation wear, damaged boards or simply an outdated colour and appearance.
Sanding also provides the opportunity to change the look of the floor with a different coating system, sheen level or custom stain while retaining the existing timber.

FLOOR SANDING GOLD COAST – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long does floor sanding and refinishing take?
The timeframe depends on the size and condition of the floor, repairs required and the coating system selected. We can provide a clearer timeframe once the floor and scope of work have been assessed.
Is floor sanding dusty?
Professional sanding equipment connected to dust extraction significantly reduces airborne dust compared with traditional sanding methods. While no sanding process can be described as completely dust free, modern professional equipment provides excellent dust control.
Can engineered timber floors be sanded?
Many engineered timber floors can be sanded and refinished, provided there is sufficient timber wear layer remaining. The flooring should be assessed before sanding to determine whether refinishing is suitable.
Can you change the colour of my timber floor?
Yes. Depending on the timber, floors can be stained or coloured to achieve anything from subtle changes and lighter contemporary finishes through to rich or dark colours.
What finish can I have on my timber floor?
We offer professional coating systems including premium water-based polyurethane, traditional polyurethane and hardwax oil finishes. Matt, low-sheen, satin and gloss options are available depending on the selected system.
Do you repair timber floors before sanding?
Yes. Where required, damaged boards, parquetry and other flooring defects can be repaired as part of the restoration process before refinishing.
